Nannah @ the Colosseum in Rome!

If you have any travel-plans, please don't hesitate to take your Nannah bag with. This one (see picture) was an order for Antjie Wepener, who visited Italy last year.

The Clutch bag/die knypsakkie

Hi Everyone,

This Tuesday, the 19th of April, Nannah will be showing the new leather designs, along with friend Annehette Troost, from Patatie jewelry. Will be great if you can pop in, have a look, and with mother's day around the corner, a handmade, original gift is always something special.

Hier is solank 'n paar voorbeelde. En as julle wil comments en idees gooi, wees welkom!!

Lekker dag!

En dankie dat jy die blog ondersteun! (-:

The date is the 26th of March

Hi everyone,

Nannah is busy preparing new designs for an event at Wedgeview Country Hotel and Spa on Saturday morning, 26 March. All ladies are welcome, entry fee is R250, and it goes to a friend of mine whose boyfriend has a neurological desease. It happened out of the blue last year and he is busy learning to speak again, and she needs to care for him 24/7. So it is definitely worth coming - Nina J from Stellenbosch will be hosting a fashion show as well, and it should be lots of fun!

A lot of people have been asking where the workshop is - so Bianca Rudman took some pictures of Rumbi and I in our natural habitat - I will attach below.

My favourite chair....

Rumbi looking very serious.....major concentration!

I love this sewing machine - it was my great-grandmother's, and it works like a heavy-duty sewing machine - so it can stitch leather nicely.

We are busy with a new suede design in grey leather - watch this space!

The magic word is Vintage!

The significance of finding the right niche market, is that the picture of where you are aiming at becomes clearer, and this is what is happening at the moment!

Nannah realises she loves vintage and so does her fellow mates, and how exciting to dive into the wonderful possibilities of such a look - creating the most beautiful bags that shout vintage-with-a-fresh-edge, in a wonderful retro world. I can see a whole new dimension of Nannah coming into existance!

And with summer on the outer edge, autumn with his warm, rustiness will surely bring forth something desirable......

On this note, I'm off to do some serious marketing, and search for masks that Rumbi and I can wear while using the glue on the leather, before we do the stitching. Not sure what they put in the glue but my head doesn't like it a lot, telling by the headaches that plague both of us.......

Below are some pics of the new vintage range - sorry for the bad quality but it is taken with my blackberry!

If anyone knows about a mask that will help? I bought the disposable ones at Brights hardware store yesterday, but it is only effective for dust, not glue fumes......

Anyway, have a super day!

Hello again

Hi dear friends of Nannah,

Sorry for the long silent period again, but things have been happening quite fast around here!

Friends

Amazing creatures.

If the one isn't taking pictures of Nannah's bags for the website, the other is networking/organising, while others are faithfully placing orders for birthday presents or just giving words of encouragement, and spreading the word.

Tiaan the website guru, Anne and Bianca the photographers, Cindy the shoe-lady helping me with business cards, Renie with the first business cards, Minki from Bergbruidjie, and every one who is supporting Nannah in which ever way. THANKS, you are appreciated!

Nama-bag

My first leather bag, designed and manufactured in Namaqualand.

My favourite sofar! Some agree! Thought I should show them to you in person at some stage, if you are keen, let me know, there is an event on the horizon at the end of March........bring along friends and spread the word!

Design Indaba @ CTICC

At first glance, some interesting looking people, creatives, or attention-seekers, or weirdo's, depending on your personal opinion.......yet, not boring I'm sure we'll agree, and who can say different is not fun, as long is being different is just the outcome of being you, naturally? (If you've lost me, don't worry, I'm also trying to figure this out in my blondness!)

The jewelry was the best part for me. Check out Annehette from Patatie jewelry, just fresh and lovely stuff and also very affordable! She is also an artist - very talented lady indeed! (Check her out on facebook)

The handbags are mostly from leather, there were some interesting designs but nothing really wow....? Haven't seen any truly handmade leather ones........

Later, a fun fashion-show with lovely autumn coats and skirts, all in black, denim, and brown belts, the thin belt that wraps around your waist twice. (See previous pics for similar Nannah belt, place your order to be in time for autumn!)

Nannah's happy world

Blogging is everywhere these days. So I will aim to write some snitbits all through the week. This is fun for me too. Need to put time out for this!!

Nannah is actually moving this weekend, not fun. It is too much of a beautiful day out to be carrying my life around. GMmmmfffff.)-:

Which makes me think - LIFE is goooooood!

Enjoy your weekend! (if you're not moving, don't complain!)

The saga continues.....

Hi and sorry for the silent period...........we were working hard, which is a jolly good thing, and sho, marketing isn't easy, but it's a really fun challenge!

I am fortunate to have the support of my family, friends and Rumbi, who is full of faith that this year Nannah will be the new hot kid in Cape Town and the rest of our Rainbow-land. Maybe even in the foreign places of the world, but as any experienced entrepreneur will tell you, you have to be prepared to crawl before you can walk and run!!!

So now Rumbi is also making gorgeous leather bags by hand - photo's to follow!

I've read a very inspiring story of this girl from Newcastle in the UK, who used to be a lawyer. It wasn't her passion so she started her own handbag-design company. Although it is hard work and, in the beginning, without real financial reward, it is rewarding in all the other spheres. And if you stay passionate and focused, who knows how it can grow and flourish! All things are possible!

If you live in and around the mothercity, come have a look at Nannah's latest leather bags - and place your order!

All handmade leatherbags will last for generations!

Enjoy your weekend!

Dag 8: The travelbag is finished!

This morning we had an early start, and I didn't realise this would actualy be a workout for my arms and back! Handstitching is lots of work. Making holes in the leather with a mallet/hammer is also not for "sissies"! But it is fun, and I really can't wait to start in my own workshop with the tools that Oom Frik gave me. A big thing that I've learnt is the importance of having an organised work-space, where everyting has its place so you can find things easily.

Later this morning I walked with Alida to the Succulent-Farm (vetplant kwekery) the largest one in the Southern hemisphere. The kokerbome are really beautiful and something to see. (See the comical names for some of the species on the pictures!)

It actually rained today, which is unlikely for this time of the year, but lovely working conditions! I just finished the travel bag, which was the big one for this course, and I am proud to say that I have a blister on my finger!

Dag 7: Die reissak/travelbag is gebore
